Earth. By two women. (Published on The Earth Issue collective)
We said « Friday, let’s take our bikes out to the island of Parc Jean-Drapeau and place your body as a sculpture within nature ».
We both live in the city of Montréal and it is not that simple to find a corner of pure nature to merge with it, freely and playfully, naked. But we thought we would find something like that somehow, so we left the buildings and concrete behind, to grasp the opportunity to feel the wind on our skin. So on our bikes we went out to seek for spots, which we proudly found. Win!
Artistically, Nanne and Giverny meet somewhere unknown. « A priori, we exchange an idea, an inspiration or a craving, to then set a day to meet and go some place earthy. The day of, we generally have coffee together, sit and connect, discuss our moods, and when we end up vulnerable we know we are ready to hustle to find our quest. And in this trust, the somewhere reveals itself to us eventually, magically.
Giverny Welsch, French Quebecer, contemporary performer/dancer
We have this extraordinary way of meeting through our imaginations, which we cannot hold on to since it’s constantly in movement, but somehow we find a way to keep track. It's a bit like a dream, an ideal love story: where everything glides organically, where our ideas combine perfectly, where trust seems to be innate, where admiration truly makes us believe that there’s no one like the other, and we are probably right…
Nanne Springer, German, photographer
I have not yet any understanding who Giverny is. Every time I see her, there is another big, new element that I was missing from her. One day I realize she is funny and sexy. The next she has a way to transform and show me her spiritual and physical knowledge. The other time how proud and shy she can be, how much she loves her family and how strongly she is her own true self. And I try a bit to give that a place. In the work. That she is many things. A natural woman. In a strange overwhelming time. A brave mind with sex appeal and a beautiful strong pride.
We crave nature to emerge from it to a place of creativity. To contemplate its powerful significance, to become insignificant, no, equal to it, to take root in it, to live by growing from the inside. Listening to it, its subtleties, its grandiosity. It was a beautiful day. Thank you dear island.
